Phnom Penh Municipal Military Police yesterday summonsed a two-star RCAF general for questioning next week after a drunken night on the town that allegedly saw him illegally discharge his weapon on two separate occasions, military police said.
Colonel Pou Dary, deputy commander of the Municipal Military Police, confirmed the summonsing of Major General Chhay Sareth, saying the officer had gone on “shooting sprees, created fear for people in Phnom Penh and violated military laws and disciplines” on Tuesday.
Major Seang Chhay, commander of the Meanchey District Military Police, said that on Tuesday, Sareth – who was intoxicated – drove to a dog-meat vendor in Russey Sroh village in Meanchey’s Niroth commune, and fired three shots into the air.
After the shooting, Chhay continued, he drove to his home in Koh Norea village, also in Niroth commune, and fired three more shots into air before entering his home.“Those who have committed a crime must face the law,” said Chhay.
